Ghana Landscape Restoration and Small Scale Mining Project Tackles Key Challenges in 2023 Annual Review and Planning Workshops

The Ghana Landscape Restoration and Small Scale Mining Project conducted annual review and planning workshops for the Cocoa Forest landscape and the Northern Savannah Zone on March 7–9, 2023, and May 2–5, 2023, respectively.

The workshop focused on major challenges affecting the Cocoa Forest landscape and the Northern Savannah Zone.

The workshops, which drew 152 participants from various implementing and beneficiary agencies, focused on four major areas that needed to be addressed: improving the link between planning processes and sub-project preparation, improving the early setup of demonstrations by agriculture departments, raising community awareness for higher productivity and lower environmental impacts, and managing rising fuel and input costs.

To tackle identified challenges, the following workable solutions were proposed at the workshops:

  • Offer staff of the District Department of Agriculture (DDoA) refresher training on Community Watershed Management Planning and Implementation to synchronize planning processes with sub-project preparation more effectively.
  • Organize specialized training sessions targeting Extension Service Providers, helping them deliver enhanced support and guidance to communities in adopting sustainable agricultural techniques.

With a strong commitment to collaboration, the Ghana Landscape Restoration and Small-Scale Mining Project strives to balance social and economic achievements and environmental protection. They envision continuous progression towards resilient landscapes underpinning enhanced living standards.
