Trees On Farmlands

Trees provide vital ecosystem services, including biodiversity habitats, erosion control, and soil fertility enhancement.

Despite these benefits, economic pressures lead local farmers to harvest trees for fuelwood, charcoal, and construction without replanting. This indiscriminate cutting has resulted in severe vegetative loss, soil erosion, and land degradation across the project area.

To address these challenges, the project supported farmers in the Cocoa Forest and Northern Savannah landscapes with agroforestry, woodlot establishment, and riparian revegetation. Farmers received assorted seedlings including Cashew, Leucaena, Cassia, Albizia, Mahogany, Bamboo, Cedrela, Ofram, Emire and Teak to plant and maintain. To date, the project has successfully established 5,500 hectares of riparian vegetation, 609 hectares of woodlots, and 21,047 hectares of agroforestry interventions.
